What’s Happened since I last posted?

Hi Everyone!

Wow! It has been months since I last updated my blog and so much happened in that time. Good things and not-so-good things have happened and it’s all been a little bit crazy.

new car!

As you know from my article; The Perks of Being a Block Road (Pt 2), I got my license in September but this followed with buying my first car in October. This was an exciting experience, although I had no idea what I was doing or what the processes involved were. Regardless, I got a fantastic deal and bought myself a beautiful Chevrolet Spark, which I have (not-so-uniquely) named Sparky. One of my first steps into true adulthood πŸ™‚

Shortly after that, I was given a job offer for a company based in Hyde Park, Sandton. It was a position for a Telesales Representative, selling beauty and skincare products for a company known as Isabella Garcia International and had the promise of good money. I decided to give it a try and it was a great learning experience.

The new job, which I started at the end of November, entailed an intense 12 week training programme. This training programme involved week to week requirements that had to be met in order to progress onto new stages of training. We were taught the basic of sales techniques and telesales, skincare and skincare routines, product knowledge and much more. I made it through 6 weeks of training. These 6 weeks were stressful, emotional and definitely forced me to grow more. But I also met some amazing women and began to socialise within the Jozi scene much more.

However, my training came to an abrupt halt after the sixth week. I had a terrible week, and it showed in my sales. Unfortunately, after being a couple of sales short for the week, I did not meet minimum requirements and my contract was not renewed. (I have an entire article coming up about my experience in a job like this so you will hear much more about it shortly). Although I found the programme itself to be rather unfair on the trainees, it was still a fantastic learning experience.

cape town!

This must be the best part of the last few months. As you know, I moved up to Jozi at the beginning of last year. Having come from Cape Town, it was time to spend some time in my home city.

My boyfriend and I decided that a road trip was in order so we packed up the car and began the tedious drive down to Cape Town. We stopped over in Kimberley for the night and visited the Big Hole,Β an open-pit and underground mine in Kimberley, and claimed to be the largest hole excavated by hand. It is huge!

While were in Cape Town, we stayed at my mom’s place (my wonderful sister gave up her room to accommodate us) and we spent our days cruising along coastlines, eating good food, drinking good beer and playing ball on the beach.

We spent our New Years Eve at a bar in Cape Town, Tjing Tjing, which is a beautiful rooftop bar in the city centre, with some friends of ours from Midrand. They happened to be in Cape Town the same time we were πŸ™‚

Now, I am currently “funemployed” but loving the time off to just recuperate, catch up with my writing and drawing, and get my ducks in a row.

Overall, it has been a great few months and the new year has started off well!
Here’s to a happy and prosperous 2017!
